BROOKSIDE

This three-bedroom semi-detached home, located in the coveted beach area of Toronto, has transformed from dark and cramped to bright and spacious.

The homeowners and their two young daughters found that their modern lifestyle didn’t jive well with the original layout: the flow was cut off at the foyer and further broken up by small rooms; and there was a severe lack of storage.

The goal was to maximize every square inch and combine classic design elements with a blend of modern and boho styles for an eclectic look that is both sophisticated and kid-friendly—with a subtle nod to their relaxed beachside locale. Tearing down walls and opening the main floor up infused the house with natural light and integrated the different areas of the home. To help the space feel bigger we kept the overall colour palette simple and airy, and added pattern, and texture throughout the home in the form of textiles, decorative tiles, rugs, and wall coverings.

We designed custom under-stair closets on the main floor to stash coats and shoes which allowed us to open the front hall up and create a light-filled entryway. We added a custom mirrored closet solution in the master bedroom that revealed a hidden walk-in closet and became the focal point of the space and a favourite design element in the home.
